Mali :Rival Tuareg rebels agree to suspend fighting
"Ansar Dine reiterates its willingness and commitment for a peaceful solution," said the spokesman of the armed group, Mohamed Aharib in apress conference, while hailing Algeria’s effort to settle the Malian crisis through dialogue.

Two rival rebel groups in Mali have agreed to stop fighting, a day after the United Nations Security Council approved  a French-drafted resolution authorising full military intervention in the West African country. The al-Qaeda-linked group Ansar Dine and the Tuareg fighters of MNLA vowed on Friday "to refrain from all actions that would cause confrontation and hostilities in the areas that they control" and signed an agreement to this effect. Algeria's agreement to act as mediator for the two sides followed the visit of President Francois Hollande, Al Jazeera reported. Algeria has a large Tuareg population which travels accross the border regularly.

Military intervention is unlikely to happen before September and In northern Mali, residents living under the grip of al-Qaeda-linked fighters  and suffering repression under enforced sharia regulation  have expressed dismay that it could be nearly a year before a regional military intervention attempts to oust the Islamists from power, AlJazeera reports. The UN is anxious for elections to take place in Mali for a democratically elected government and the Malian army requires time for training and reequipmnent before any intervention in the north. Asregards elections, it will be hard to arrange voting in thenorth of thecountry which is under occupation.
