Rabat - Major development projects are awaiting the Maghreb countries if the artificial conflict over the Sahara is resolved, said chairman of the PJD parliamentary group at the House of Representatives Mustafa Ibrahimi. In an interview with digital channel MEA TV & Radio (Middle Eastern American), broadcast this weekend on Youtube, Ibrahimi said that Europe and the United States wish to communicate and deal with one representative of the greater Maghreb, asserting that the Sahara conflict is artificial and unjust historically and geographically, as it results in a loss of about two points of gross domestic product (GDP) for Morocco and Algeria. The PJD parliamentarian underlined that all the countries of the region have a Saharan region. "But, we want Morocco without the Sahara," he said, noting that the tribes of the region maintain close relations with the sultans and dynasties who ruled Morocco. "There are documents which prove this in addition to the opinion of the International Court of Justice in The Hague," he said. "Morocco, which is trying to build good relations, is always seeking to find a solution to this conflict," stressed Ibrahimi, recalling in this regard the proposal for autonomy in the southern provinces presented by the Kingdom, and supported by the United Nations. The chairman of the parliamentary group noted that the development that Morocco is experiencing on the economic, social, political and cultural levels, qualifies it, alongside its geostrategic position, to play a fundamental role in the region.
