Libya’s interior minister withdraws resignation
Interior Minister Fawzi Abdel - Ali has announced he is withdrawing his resignation, which he submitted on Sunday following criticism of his handling of recent violence in Libya.

“When I submitted my resignation, I thought I would be relieving many people. But it seems that my resignation will further complicate security and I have decided to withdraw it,” Abdel - Ali told a news conference in Tripoli.

Following his resignationand the criticism of the security forces and their inaction as sufi shrines were bulldozed Police and Militia leaders were said to have told their leaders to stay off the streets. The Minister emphasised that his forces were too poorly armed to intervene.

Most seriously for the Interior Ministry, it appeared to  have lost control of the Supreme Security Committee during last week’s attacks on Sufi shrines in Tripoli, Zliten and Misrata. The SSC failed to prevent the total destruction of the Al-Sha’ab shrine in Tripoli over a period of two days, in spite of demands from inside both the government and the Congress for it to do so

Libya's unbalanced  security situation has been of concern for sometime. The Minister gave no reason for withdrawing his resignation but it is likely to have been to avoid a clash within the security forces.

A new government is due to be appointed in a few weeks time.
