Lakome case submitted to examining judge of Rabat Appellate Court

Rabat - The case of the editor of electronic site Lakome in connection with the broadcast of a video attributed to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), encouraging terrorism in Morocco, has been submitted to the examining judge at the appellate Court of Rabat, announced the Attorney General of the King at the same court.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Attorney General of the King at the Appellate Court of Rabat said the public prosecutor asked the judge to open an investigation regarding the case of the editor of Lakome news website for crimes related to "deliberately providing assistance to those willing to commit terrorist acts and the means to carry out a terrorist crime, and advocating acts of terrorism."

The Attorney General of King at the appellate court of Rabat stressed that the investigations against Lakome journalist following the posting by the website of a video attributed to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) were conducted by the national Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) under the supervision of the General Prosecutor.

Minutes of these investigations were presented Tuesday before the public prosecutor who asked the examining judge to hear the defendant for the aforementioned crimes, the same source added.

The same source recalled that the defendant contacted his three defense lawyers on September 20, adding that the public prosecutor will ensure a fair trial, in line with the law and international human rights conventions.
