Laayoune Gets Silver Prize in ATO Arab Environmental Safety Category

Doha - The southern city of Laayoune received, on Monday in Doha, the silver prize of the prestigious Arab Town Organization (ATO) in Environmental Safety Category Award.

The ceremony, during which the first prize in this category was awarded to the Saudi city of Dammam, was attended by first vice-president of Laayoune Municipal Council and numerous figures from the Arab Town Organization.

According to the jury, this award recognizes the efforts of Laayoune and the determination of its leaders in the preservation of the environment.

The Arab Towns Organisation (ATO) was established in 1967 in Kuwait City with the aim of raising the standard of local authorities, municipal, and city services and utilities in Arab towns as well as to preserve the character and heritage of the Arab town.

ATO is particularly concerned with the preservation of the character and heritage of Arab towns, through ensuring that development and construction plans take account of its social, economic, cultural and environmental features.
