Laayoune - The holding of the 3rd Morocco-Pacific Island States Forum on Feb. 26 to 28 in Laayoune constitutes "a clear and unequivocal recognition" of the Moroccan aspect of the Sahara, said on Friday Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Development Forum Solo Mara. The Pacific island countries who took part in this high-level event clearly reiterated their support for the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara, underlined Mara during a joint press briefing with Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita at the end of this Forum.

"We were impressed by the far-reaching achievements that this region of the Kingdom has known thanks to the vision of HM King Mohammed VI", he said, welcoming the dynamic of sustained development aimed at the well-being of the populations of Laayoune, as well as the peace and security which prevail in this beautiful city and its surroundings. He also paid tribute to HM the King who is the leader and spokesperson for the concerns and aspirations of the countries of the South, including the Pacific Island States, on subjects relating to climate change, migration, counterterrorism, as well as the empowerment of women and youth. Mara also affirmed that the Morocco-Pacific Island States Forum constitutes a "unique model" of South-South cooperation, welcoming the "great success" of this 3rd edition, crowned with concrete results and paving the way for effective and sustainable actions. "The spirit of solidarity oriented towards action and cooperation will allow us, without any doubt, to face common challenges and to understand together questions relating to climate change, renewable energy, health, infrastructure, food security, education and vocational training, said Mara, who praised the will and commitment of Morocco to share its experiences, expertise and know-how with the Pacific Island States.
