Inauguration in Rabat of Embassy of Sierra Leone
Rabat - The Embassy of Sierra Leone in Morocco was inaugurated during a ceremony on Friday in Rabat. This ceremony was chaired by the Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Mohcine Jazouli, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sierra Leone, David Francis.
Speaking at a joint press briefing with Jazouli, the Sierra Leonean minister said he was "very happy" with the opening of this diplomatic representation, which is "a superb demonstration of our commitment and our long-standing partnership", welcoming in this regard the signing, the day before, of a roadmap aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries in several areas. This diplomatic representation will further consolidate the already "very strong" bilateral relations and help promote the African partnership, underlined Francis, who thanked the Kingdom of Morocco for its "huge support" to Sierra Leone in different areas, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. "Morocco has always been with us to give us its support" during this global health crisis, he said. He highlighted the development that Morocco is currently experiencing, "an intelligent Kingdom". "In the 90s, Morocco's economy was based mainly on agriculture and tourism.
Today, it is based mainly on the automotive industry and aeronautics," said the minister. For his part, Jazouli welcomed the opening of this embassy which reflects "the strong links, as well as the relations of friendship, solidarity and fraternity between the two countries". "This inauguration follows the roadmap signed between the two countries with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation in several areas related to investment, economy, education and training, as well as security," he stressed, highlighting the strong relations between HM King Mohammed VI and President Julius Maada Bio.
The Minister Delegate recalled, in this regard, the opening next Monday of the Consulate General of Sierra Leone in Dakhla, "which marks the support of this African country for the Moroccanness of the Sahara and testifies to its support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom". For Sierra Leone, "the Sahara is a territory under the sovereignty of Morocco," Francis said on Thursday during a joint press briefing with Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad.
