Human Rights: Justice Minister Holds Talks with APT President, ILC Head of Secretariat

During these talks, Ouahbi reiterated the commitment of the Kingdom within the ILC, as well as its determination to work to maintain the excellent cooperation with the APT.
The Moroccan minister gave, in this regard, an overview of the efforts made by Morocco in particular in the context of promoting the prevention of torture, the establishment of a national mechanism for the prevention of torture, the updating of the legal arsenal concerning custody, and the establishment of a training institute on human rights issues with all the necessary provisions, including a site for accommodation for the beneficiaries of training.
In addition, the Institute has an African vocation in that it intends to promote the civic culture and human rights in the Continent.
He also cited a project on forensic medicine and the efforts undertaken by Morocco in this area, including the strengthening of human resources and training of doctors qualified in the field. Moreover, he expressed the readiness of the Kingdom to host a regional workshop on strengthening the implementation of the Convention on Torture, in partnership with the ILC during this year.
Gayethri welcomed Morocco's support for the ILC, magnifying the decisive role played by the Kingdom in the accession of all Arab states to the convention.
APT President was pleased, for her part, with the excellent, long-standing cooperation relations with Morocco, while highly praising the constant support of the Kingdom to the action and mandate of the association.
These talks took place in the presence of the Permanent Representative of Morocco in Geneva, Ambassador Omar Zniber and members of the delegation accompanying the Minister.
