Rabat - The French President, François Hollande said that Morocco asserts itself as "a country of stability and calm", paying tribute to the "will to reform" of King Mohammed VI.

"Morocco takes decisive steps every day towards democracy, consistently leddevelopment, ensures its unity based on the recognition of diversity," said the head of the French state in a speech to both Houses of Parliament which met in joint session on Thursday.

 

Referring to the projects launched in Morocco, under the leadership of Sovereign Hollande cited, among others, the consolidation of rights, reform of the family code, access to basic services, strengthening the social dialogue, accountable governance and environmental protection.

 

The head of the French state noted in this regard that Morocco has been able to engage a modern approach, respecting its traditions and pursuing the path of political pluralism.

 

"In Morocco, women's rights progress, the reform of the family code has been progressed towards equality, and I know the commitment of Moroccan to women in public life," said Mr. Hollande.

 

He noted, secondly, that the Kingdom has taken a "bold look at past wounds," recalling the instance of the creation of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission (IER), which helped to initiate a process, not only to recognise the violations that have been committed, but also to compensate the victims. "It serves as a reference which many countries should emulate," said President Hollande.

 

On another component, the French president said that the Moroccan Constitution, adopted in July 2011, is "more than a constitution, it is a program and it is a step forward. It establishes the separation of powers."

 

Similarly, finally said the head of the French state, this Basic Law guarantees tolerance, as its preamble recognises the multiple nature of the Moroccan identity: Arab-Islamic, Amazigh, Hassani, Sahara, and many tributaries African Arab-Andalusian, Hebrew and Mediterranean ..
