Rabat - The report by Human Rights Watch (HRW), accusing the Moroccan authorities of mistreating African and sub-Saharan immigrants, is clearly unfair and flouts Morocco's new migration policy, communication minister, government spokesperson Mustapha El Khalfi told BBC channel.

The minister said that the report by the NGO does not include any assessment of this new policy, which is a first at the African level, as Morocco is the only country that have announced a migration policy with a human and social dimension, which the Kingdom fully assumes despite the fact that migration is everyone's responsibility.

The new Moroccan immigration policy does not precede certain allegations and alleged cases cited by the HRW which make them outdated, said El Khalfi, adding that in case of violence, a complaint is filed with the judicial authorities which will open an investigation, including in cases of death when trying to storm into the occupied city of Mellilia.

After reviewing the provisions of this new policy and statistics concerning illegal immigrants in Morocco, which are between 25,000 and 40,000 as estimated by the Ministry of the Interior, the Minister noted that some 10,000 cases of regularization were filed in less than a month.
