French Website 'Mondafrique' Underlines Morocco's Great Diplomatic Progress to Settle Sahara Issue

Lundi 27 Janvier 2020

Paris - French website "Mondafrique" underlined on Sunday the great diplomatic progress made by Morocco, a fact that announces the beginning of a settlement for the Sahara issue. In an article entitled "Sahara, Morocco launches the offensive", the investigation and opinion website highlighted the deployment of Moroccan diplomacy which is successfully working to reduce the number of states recognizing the so-called SADR.

According to the French website, "since the start of 2020, the Moroccan diplomatic offensive has been remarkable. The Comoros, The Gambia, Gabon, Guinea, the Central African Republic and Sao Tome and Principe have opened a consulate general either in Dakhla or in Laayoune". Similarly, the African Football Confederation (CAF) participated in consolidating Morocco's sovereignty over this territory, by announcing the organization from January 28 to February 8, the Africa Futsal Cup of Nations in Laayoune, and by holding in the Sahara the meeting of its executive council on February 6 to celebrate its 63rd anniversary, the same source added. The website, which echoed the vote by the Moroccan Parliament of draft laws aiming to establish the legal competence of the Kingdom over all of its sea domain including the waters of the Sahara, also underscored the new political context in the Maghreb and the loss of polisario's audience within the international community. "So many reasons for Morocco to foster its sovereignty over the Sahara," said Mondafrique, noting that the prospect of seeing the end of this longest-running conflict in the African continent is no longer absurd.
