“I will be most delighted to visit Morocco early next year,” Mr. Hollande said after a meeting with the head of the Moroccan government Abdelilah Benkirane, on the sidelines of the Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the 5 +5 Euro-Mediterranean dialogue countries.

The French head of state highlighted, in a press statement, the “deep friendship” bonds and the “long-standing” ties between France and Morocco, which have promising “future prospects”.

To this end, French Prime Minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault, and his Moroccan counterpart will co-chair the next high-level meeting early December in Morocco, he said.

Mr. Hollande emphasized the need for solidarity between the north and the south of the Mediterranean to ensure success of transition in Maghreb countries in transition, including “support for development”.

For his part, Mr Benkirane stressed that the meeting provided an opportunity to reiterate the exemplary relations between Morocco and France.

The Summit, which was launched in 2003 in Tunis, brings together the presidents of France, Tunisia and Mauritania and the heads of government of Spain, Italy, Portugal, Malta, Morocco and Algeria as well as the Libyan parliament speaker.
