Four Moroccan Sites on ISESCO Islamic Heritage Final List

Rabat - Four Moroccan sites were included in the final list of Islamic heritage at the end of the extraordinary meeting of the Islamic World Heritage Committee, held on 2-3 Dec. at the headquarters of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), said a statement by the ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. These are the Al-Quaraouiyine mosque in Fez, the Tinmel Almohad mosque located in the Western High Atlas, the site of Ksar Sghir in the province of Tangier and the Oasis of Figuig, the statement pointed out.

In addition, the sites of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, the city of Taza, the site of Lixus, the funerary monument of Al Kour in the province of El Hajeb, the cave of Taforalt in the province of Oujda, the park of Talassemtane in the province of Chefchaouen, the Ajgal tree reserve in the anti-Atlas, the park of Khenifiss, the national park of Dakhla, the city of Casablanca and the Oued-Noun basin were added to the preliminary list of the Islamic world heritage, according to the same source. The choice of these historic and natural sites is the result of action made by the Department of Culture, which aims to preserve and enhance and promote the Moroccan cultural heritage at the national and international level.

It is also a recognition of the value and human dimensions of these sites, the source said.
