Forty artists sing for the peace and unity of Mali

Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara recently convened forty African music stars around "Mali Ko" (for Mali), a song for the union of Mali and the protection of their culture threatened by terrorist groups prevalent in the north, says one African electronic sites.

Written and composed by Fatoumata Diawara and available on social networks, "Mali Ko" or "Voices united for Mali" (Voices unite for Mali) includes the voices of forty artists from Africa with Oumou Sangare Tiken Jah Fakoly, Amadou and Mariam, Toumani Diabaté, Bassekou Kouyate, Koko Dembele, Habib Koite.
 
An introduction to the "Kora" (traditional African stringed instrument) marks the beginning of the single moving with the traditional sounds clip is subtitled in French and English.
 
Fatoumata Diawara, deeply affected by the events through which his country has decided, after two years of touring outside of Mali, to bring the aspirations of its people for peace and unity.
 
The northern part of Mali has fallen since the spring of 2012 under the control of terrorist groups, who threatened early 2013 to take the capital Bamako, precipitating the intervention of France alongside the Malian army to kick off this attempt dangerous for the country and for the entire sub-Sahelian region.
 
Originally Malian, Fatoumata Diawara was born in Ivory Coast. Multidisciplinary artist, she is a singer, actress and theater actress where she held roles including "Genesis" of Cheich Omar Sissoko (winner at Cannes in 1999) and "Sia: The Dream of the Python" (Special Jury at FESPACO 2001), among others.
 
Songwriter and singer, Fatoumata Diawara has produced several albums including "Seya", "Sabaly", "Fatou" or "Kanou EP". She has participated in the recording of the album Dee Dee Bridgewater and sang with Herbie Hancock on "The Imagine Project" (Grammy Award in 2011) as well as Hank Jones.
 
Fatoumata Diawara has participated in the last Diwan International Festival of Algiers, held from 8 to 14 July 2012.
