Former Moroccan athlete Fatima Aouam dies
Rabat - Former Moroccan athlete Fatima Aouam passed away، on Saturday evening in Casablanca، at the age of 55 after a long disease، the Moroccan Royal Federation for Athletics said.

Fatima Aouam broke several records and was the champion of Africa in 1988 in Algeria and in 1989 in Egypt. In 1988، she reached the final of 1،500m at the Summer Olympics in Seoul (South Korea). Aouam set her personal best (4:05.49) in the 1،500m in 1986، and broke the world record of 2 miles in 1987 in Padua.

She was the third Moroccan athlete to become UNICEF goodwill ambassador after Hicham El Guerrouj and Nawal El Moutawakel.
