Former Gaddafi stronghold Bani Walid falls to Libyan forces.

Forces from the national army together with allied brigades have taken control of Bani Walid, the last pro-Qaddafi stronghold in Libya.Chief of Staff General Yusuf Mangoush announced that operations had concluded althoughisolated pockets of resistance remained,the Libya Herald reported.

Fighting and heavy shelling  has continued since 2 October and over 25,000 citizens of  Bani Walid have  and scores killed and at least 200 injured.General Mangoush defended the use of heavy weapons and grad rockets as an appropriate response to the same weapons being used against the army.

Government spokesman Nasser Al-Manaa apologised for incorrect government reports that those captured included Khamis Gaddafi and former Gadaffi regime spokesman  Ibrahim Moussa . He confirmed that 100 wanted persons were captured including membersof Khamis Gaddafi's 32nd brigade.

Bani Walid was the last Gaddafi stronghold.
