Fight against radicalization: Morocco is developing an exemplary approach

Brussels - Morocco is developing an exemplary approach in the fight against religious radicalization, Vice-President of the European People's Party (EPP) at the European Parliament Mariya Gabriel said. The recent inauguration of Mohammed VI Institute for the Training of Imams, Murshidins and Murshidates to disseminate the values of an open and moderate Islam and counter the emergence of extremist movements testifies to the exemplary Moroccan approach to fight religious radicalization, the Bulgarian member of European Parliament (MEP) added.

In a letter to ambassador Menouar Alem, Head of the Moroccan Mission to the EU, Gabriel also lauded the continued efforts by the Kingdom to promote religious moderation and tolerance in North Africa, a region that the EU considers a "top priority" in combatting terrorism and radicalization.

In its statement at the 9th EU-Morocco Association Council, the EU stressed the possibility of cooperation with Morocco to prevent and fight radicalization in North Africa and Europe given efforts by Morocco to promote an open and tolerant Islam nationally and regionally.
