FM to Fox News: Iran is Seeking Foothold in North Africa

Vendredi 25 Mai 2018

Washington - Foreign minister Nasser Bourita warned in a statement to FoxNews.com, on Wednesday, that Iran is seeking a foothold in North Africa.

"Bourita cited newly released evidence showing recent visits of senior Hezbollah leaders meetings with senior Polisario military leaders, including the men responsible for Hezbollah's external relations for military training and logistics," said author of the article Ben Evansky.

"Morocco witnessed a change last year following the arrest of a Hezbollah financier," said the minister quoted by Fox News. This man was arrested following an international arrest warrant issued by the United States for money laundering and belonging to a terrorist organization.

Fox News quoted Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's first major policy speech on Iran Monday, wherein he warned Tehran that the U.S. would work closely with regional allies to deter its meddling.

Bourita made clear that his country's decision -to sever relations with Iran, was taken for national security reasons and not under pressure.
