FM meets in Tangiers with Italian counterpart

Tangiers - Foreign minister Salaheddine Mezouar met, on Wednesday in Tangiers, with Italian peer Paolo Gentiloni on bilateral cooperation as well as several regional and international issues of shared interest.
During this meeting, the two parties lauded the excellent political, historical and human relations between the two countries, voicing their will to further promote the Moroccan-Italian partnership, notably in the economic area which witnessed rapid expansion over the past two years.

The two officials also lauded the structured economic partnership to be sealed by the two sides in terms of holding joint economic forums alternately in Morocco and Italy.

The Italian official voiced satisfaction with the cultural and economic contribution by the Moroccan community living in Italy which amounts to 600,000 expatriates, the first non-EU community residing in the country.

Regionally, the Italian minister lauded Morocco's contribution as a facilitator and mediator in the inter-Libyan talks process, crowned by the agreement that was initialed in Skhirat.

This meeting is a prelude to the first official visit to Morocco by the president of the Italian council of ministers Matteo Renzin which will be marked by the signature of a joint statement on the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two governments to institutionalize bilateral political and strategic dialogue.
