Expert: 'Difficult' year for the Moroccan tourism sector will rebound in 2013 .
"Tourism in Morocco is crucial for the economy, because it represents approximately 7.1% of national gross domestic product" financial analyst Moussa El Mouritani said.

"The European market accounts for over 50% of tourism in Morocco, but the market is still unstable and its economy is in times of great difficulty ... getting back to normal rhythm will be long and slow progression," he analysed as cited by British media specialist Travel Daily Media.

For his part the Minister of Tourism Lahcen Haddad stressed that efforts have been made at several levels to find ways to minimize the impact of European weakness on the Moroccan economy in general, the tourism sector in particular.

"The Moroccan government plans to develop innovative and pragmatic projects that would allow for substantial investments to revitalize the sector," said Haddad.

"This would require the mobilization of public and private funds for the installation of 36,000 additional beds and therefore the creation of 10,000 direct and indirect jobs," he said.

It concludes that 2013 will be the year of diversification of markets and products, since Morocco began arriving in medical tourism and environmental sustainability.
