European Union unveils 10 million Euro-program to support Morocco's migration policy in 2015
According to a spokesperson the European Commission, the EU will "substantially" support Morocco's migration and asylum policy and plans to launch in 2015 a 10 million-Euro program.

"Morocco was the first North African country to adopt a real migration policy that included the establishment of an office for refugees and a system to fight person-trafficking and we would like to be involved in these efforts", spokeswoman of the European Commissioner in charge of migration, internal affairs and citizenship, Natasha Bertaud, told MAP.

She added that the European Union's decision to support Morocco is motivated by the fact that Morocco has de facto become a host country, and not only a migration transit or origin country, stressing that since the signing in 2013 of the Partnership for mobility, a train of actions were conducted by the EU, the 9 participating member-states and the EU specialized agencies to implement the agreement that marks the beginning of a long and close cooperation in matters of migration.

She cited, in this context, the "Sharaka" project, worth 5.2 million Euros launched last September to support the Moroccan government's efforts to analyze best practices in migration and development.

The "Sharaka" project also aims to help Morocco, formulate, in cooperation with European countries, ideas for better access of Moroccan labor to the European job market, improve services extended to Moroccan migrants wishing to return to Morocco and better harness the positive impact of Moroccan expatriate skills, she went on.

Bertaud further announced that Morocco and the EU will hold a meeting in Rabat to assess their cooperation in migration matters and trade information on recent developments, particularly progress fulfilled in the implementation of the Moroccan new migration policy and results of next Thursday's ministerial conference of the Rabat process.
