European Union launches first part of 2013 action program to support economic, social development in Morocco

Brussels - The European Commission announced on Thursday the start of the first part of the 2013 action program to support economic and social development in Morocco with the aim to assist the reforms launched by the Kingdom and insure their success and sustainability.

Worth some 110 million Euros, the program provides for supporting the establishment of a universal health care system and the agricultural development policy benefitting small farmers, said a statement by the European Commission.

The program will also lend support to the government in the effective technical and financial management of the health care system and the measures aimed at improving health care in the country.

With an amount of 50 million euros, the basic health coverage reform, will be the third phase of the European Union support program launched in 2002, and which aims to establish a universal health coverage in Morocco. As for the agriculture sector support project (60 million euros), the program will continue to support the ongoing initiatives taken by Morocco to help small farmers increase productivity and generate jobs in certain priority agricultural sectors.
