European Parliament Denounces Embezzlements of Humanitarian Aids in Tindouf
"The European Parliament denounced the embezzlements and those who enrich themselves at the expense of Tindouf's population", said the French socialist MEP, expressing his "satisfaction" with the results of the vote and the adoption of a resolution by the European Parliament that holds Algeria and Polisario responsible for the fraudulent diversion of humanitarian aid.

"We should know the number of the population in Tindouf camps in order to adapt our humanitarian aid especially as the latest estimates of the European Commission now date back to more than 8 years," said Pargneaux.

The MEP also pointed out that the situation in Tindouf creates despair and resentment among the disenchanted youth of those camps offering propitious conditions for the proliferation of extremism.

Pargneaux also stressed the need for conducting a census and a registration of of the population in the camps.

Recently, the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) released a report disclosing the fraudulent practices of massive aid embezzlement by Algeria and the polisario.

The report disclosed that a large of part of the humanitarian aid sent to the population in the camps of Tindouf gets diverted in the port of Oran. Only a small part of aid reaches the camp while the rests is often sold in markets in neighbouring countries.

This embezzlement is mainly ascribed to the inflation of the number of the population in the polisario-run camps in south-western Algeria.
