Essaouira: 'Moulay Abderrahmane' Dam will Help Small Farmers Enhance Their Products and Improve Their Income, Akhannouch

Essaouira - The "Moulay Abderrahmane" dam, inaugurated on Thursday by HM King Mohammed VI, is an important project for small farmers as it will help them enhance their products and improve their income, said Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests Aziz Akhannouch. The new dam will provide irrigation water covering almost 1,300 hectares of agricultural land belonging to nearly 1,200 farmers, he said, noting that this project will also allow small farmers to organize themselves under associations or federations of irrigation water developers. Akhannouch stressed the importance of the dam for the whole region which will experience the development of an agriculture that would help small farmers to benefit optimally from irrigation water, diversify their products and improve their income.

HM King Mohammed VI inaugurated Thursday the "Moulay Abderrahmane" dam, built on oued Ksoub for a total cost of 920 million dirhams. The sovereign also inaugurated the hydro-agricultural development project of the "Ksoub" perimeter downstream of the new dam, which mobilizes investments of about 238 million dirhams, and drinking water projects relating to the construction of a water treatment plant of the Moulay Abderrahmane dam and the laying of water supply pipes (135 million dirhams), and a project to strengthen access to drinking water in rural areas (192 million dirhams).
