Ennahda lets go

Noting that recent negotiations between the various components of the political class led to the renewal of the impasse, because of the stubbornness of Ennahda over maintaining its hold on the Ministry of Interior, Sheikh Rached Ghannouchi droppedthis position in order to avoid furtherconflict. In a statement yesterday on Radio Kalima, the President announced the new Ennahda, opening the way for negotiations on independent personalities likely to be designated the Algerian daily El Watan reports.

Finding an independent minister is made more difficult by the docile administraion inherited from the Ben Ali era.
The Ennhada led administration has also not encouraged independence in the administration and may have been concerned about the independence of technocrat ministers. On the otherhand, those who have been proposed as ministers of Justice and interior are thought to lack the characteristics necessary to run their ministries as they are bureaucrats rather than leaders.It boils down to whether Ennhadais prepared to agree to truly independent ministers.
