Vendredi 20 Décembre 2019

Rabat - The Republic of El Salvador underlined Thursday in Rabat the Moroccanness of the Sahara, reaffirming its support for the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco. Speaking at a press briefing following talks with Morocco’s minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans abroad, Nasser Bourita, Salvadoran Foreign Minister, Alexandra Hill, said her country underlines the Moroccanness of the Sahara and reaffirms its support for the territorial integrity and the national sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco.

On this occasion, the Salvadoran official reiterated the "final withdrawal" of her country’s recognition of the "virtual entity" of the ‘SADR’, noting that this decision, taken by President Nayib Bukele, reflects the willingness of El Salvador to open up to the Arab world, and in particular to Morocco. The Salvadoran top-diplomat also stressed that the autonomy initiative for the Sahara, proposed by the Kingdom, represents "the only possible solution" to this regional dispute.

She also announced that she will pay a visit to the southern city of Laayoune. The Salvadoran government announced on June 15 in a joint statement signed by Bourita and his Salvadoran counterpart its decision to withdraw its recognition of the so-called SADR and to support Morocco’s territorial integrity.
