Development priorities for post-2015. UN consults Moroccans

The forum  was launched by the United Nations in Morocco last February, in cooperation with the Ministry of General Affairs and Governance on the priorities of development after 2015, was held on Thursday in Rabat, local press reported.

The  reflection concentrated on "the future we want" for after 2015, which should be inclusive, participatory and transparent. Those consulted felt that the priority actions in the immediate future should focus on improving the education system, better access for all to quality care and the eradication of poverty and social inequality.

In addition to institutional partners, the private sector, academia, media, diplomatic missions, civil society and MRE,  the floor was given to the voiceless, vulnerable populations, including  people with special needs, professionals dealing with sexual problems or critically ill patients.

One hundred preparatory meetings were necessary to clear the ground. Thirty consultations with more than 800 people were conducted, including 14 focus groups with marginalised populations. The overall findings of consultations in 90 countries (50 originally ) will lead to the emergence of a consensus on the global development agenda post-2015, which will be discussed by the General Assembly of the United Nations in the fall of 2013.

Those consulted were impatient and demanding immediate action, but their dreams are neither utopian nor unrealistic. They dream of having an education system that allows it to produce citizens with analytical skills, who are able entrepreneurs and citizens to assume and direct project development.

In this context, pre-school teaching, which is essential for the affirmation of the personality of our young children, should also contribute to the creation of resources and jobs.

The establishment of bridges between the college and vocational training and the integration of the training into the curriculum, without waiting for the student to be a school failure, would also be desirable, depending on the wishes of the respondents. Students will also benefit from more opportunities to grow through innovation activities, leisure and sport.

In the area of health, the establishment of a system of effective social protection whic covers all citizens is slow to materialise on the ground. Attention was drawn to the sheer number of women dying during childbirth and children under 5 years.

In terms of economic development and the fight against insecurity, people are demanding more political stability and continuity in administrative action. Most of their claims focused on good governance, environmental protection, access to employment through training in line with available jobs, gender equality, greater justice, the fight against corruption, impunity and economic and social inequalities.

In the context of the management of a more equitable society, rural youth are demanding that the wealth from their territorial resources (product mining, phosphate, agriculture, renewable energy ...) are in the first place involved with local development. They want their work and value their everyday environment, before serving the interests of big capital cities or abroad.
