This operation, which took place last week, aimed to secure the MONUSCO observers, who were on a mission to raise awareness on the voluntary surrender of the remnants of the LRA (Lord 's Resistance Army) rebel movement against the Government of Uganda, said a statement from the UN Mission on Thursday.

The Bangladeshi and Moroccan battalions deployed in this part of the DRC have also secured several patrols to prevent any attacks by armed groups against civilians, the same source said. The statement of the UN Mission reported that the security situation remains "unpredictable" in North Kivu in the past week, due to the presence of several armed groups active in the province.
