Covid-19: Epidemiological Situation in Morocco is 'Very Reassuring'

Casablanca - The epidemiological situation in Morocco is "very reassuring", thanks to the "clear-sighted" instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, which "helped avoid the worst scenarios" related to the pandemic of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), Health minister Khalid Ait Taleb said on Sunday.

"The epidemiological situation that our country is going through today is very reassuring, results made possible thanks to the wisdom and foresight of HM King Mohammed VI," said the minister, during an online conference on the theme "Covid-19 mission: private clinics results", organized by the national Association of private clinics (ANCP).

The national health system "has managed to overcome this ordeal with strength and courage, relying on the mobilization and combined efforts of all stakeholders," he said, noting that the recovery rate has reached 90%, while the case-fatality rate has not exceeded 2.5%.

In addition, professor Ait Taleb reported the continuation, in coordination with the ministry of Interior and the Moroccan Employers' Association (CGEM), of the diagnostic operation for the benefit of employees and professionals, indicating that the daily average now stands at some 20,000 tests per day at the national level.

This operation is likely to contribute "to making up the economic deficit recorded during the period of confinement, to relaunch a dynamic of activity and to return to a normal rhythm of productivity," he said, recalling the importance of respecting barrier gestures, namely frequent hand washing, the wearing of protective masks and social distancing.

In connection with the theme of the conference, the minister praised the leading role played by private clinics in the fight against this pandemic, by making available their technical means and qualified human resources, who volunteered alongside their colleagues in the public sector to provide care for patients in the intensive care and resuscitation units.

The joint efforts during this crisis prove that the health sector is "an indivisible whole, be it civil or military medicine, public or private," he said.

He considered it "necessary" to consolidate this joint action and close ranks to manage the constraints hampering the development of the national health system, with a view to meeting citizens' aspirations and guaranteeing them "fluid access to care".
