Covid-19: 259 New Cases in Morocco, 2,283 in Total - Health Ministry

Rabat - The ministry of health said 259 new cases of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) were confirmed in Morocco over the past 24 hours until Thursday at 6 p.m., bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases in the Kingdom to 2,283.

Three new deaths due to coronavirus complications were reported in the same period, bringing the total number of fatalities to 130, while twenty new recoveries were registered, which rises to 249 the total number of recovered covid-19 patients, Director of epidemiology at the ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi, pointed out in a statement broadcast by MAP on its M24 channel and RIM radio.

Regarding the new cases in the past 24 hours, the official said they were reported among family members of infected people and also at some industrial and commercial units in the cities of Casablanca (85), Marrakech (66), Tangier (21) and Fez (68).

According to El Youbi, Casablanca-Settat is still the worst-hit region with 29.8% of cases, followed by Marrakech-Safi (21.3%), Fez-Meknes (13.9%), Rabat-Salé-Kenitra (11.3%) and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (10.1%).

The number of people admitted to hospitals in a serious or critical condition has declined over the past days, he said, adding that 75% of Covid-19 cases were in mild condition, 16% did not show symptoms and 9% were in serious or critical condition when they were taken into hospital.

The official said that 12,357 people had contact with Covid-19 cases since the start of the outbreak, adding that 5,174 of them are still under medical surveillance. The follow-up of these people led to the discovery of 1,128 cases so far, including 149 cases over the past 24 hours.
