The Chamber of Financial Crimes near the Rabat Court of Appeal delivered on Wednesday evening, from judgments of acquittal to five years imprisonment against six accused persons in connection with the case "Comanav."

Taoufik Ibrahimi, the main accused and former CEO of the company, is sentenced to five years in prison, the Court has cleared him of charges of "forming a criminal gang and disclosure of professional secrecy" and charged  him with "sabotage of public facilities (ports and ships) and interference with the freedom of labour."

 

It also sentenced to three years in prison the former director of central human resources of the company. A former scientific institute official attached to the sea fishing also was sentenced to three years in prison, while a former general secretary of the union of seamen, has been sentenced to two years in prison. The Court sentenced to one year in prison a former secretary general of the union of dockers, while Mohammed Ben Abdellah, who worked as a sailor in the port of Tangier, was cleared of all charges.

 

Following the abandonment of the charge of "forming a criminal gang," the Court has indicted the defendants, who were sued on state bail for "involvement in sabotage of public facilities (ports and ships) and interference with the freedom of labour "in accordance with Articles 129, 288 and 591 of the Penal Code.

 

The case was referred to the Attorney General of the King at the Court of Appeal in Rabat on 19 June 2012.
