Climate: At the door of desertification in the Sahel
It was  in response to this encroaching desertification, that Dakar was home on Wednesday, 8 August , a two-day workshop on the fight against desertification for sustainable land management. It was also to review the new directions to take in relation to the intervention program of the Great Green Wall.

Sahelian countries are threatened by desert encroachment caused mainly by land degradation and climate change.

To cope, the NGO Enda Energy, Environment and Development, in collaboration with Drynet is a civil society in the fight against desertification and land degradation, organized a two day workshop, on Wednesday 8 and Thursday August 9.

"Degradation is the door of desertification and  is a major problem for countries whose economy is based on the primary sector," said Mor Talla Niasse, the Head of Division reforestation the Directorate of Water, Forests, Hunting and of soil conservation.

That's about it as the Great Green Wall (GGW) was created as part of regional cooperation and a synergy of actions, to restore the viability of ecosystems and production systems in areas rural in 2025.

"At the continental level, countries do not have the same level of progress, but Senegal is ahead of others," said the coordinator of Enda Energy-Environment-Development, Seydou Sarr.

Despite this step forward, a titanic work is needed to properly lead the fight against desertification, which is perfectly correlated with climate change.

"If we look at the results in terms of actions, there is a breakthrough, but it remains mixed," said Seydou Sarr. However, the anthropological issues are real problems facing the phenomenon of desertification and sustainable management of land which joins the climate change phenomenon.

"To deal with desertification and global warming,  civil society must act and react. For our climate, our environment is changing and we are all guilty because we are consumers, but also part of the solution, "said Councillor of the Swiss embassy, Philip Olivier Beguin.

In any event, this workshop will help refocus the intervention strategies of the program of the Great Wall.

It is analyzed in terms of expectations of local stakeholders to identify possible synergies of action to be identified as a basis of partnership for a more sustainable dry land management with an assessment of the investment environment in the civil society.
