Casablanca's International book fair drew over 340,000 visitors

Casablanca - The 21st edition of Casablanca's International Book fair (SIEL), held on Feb 13-22, attracted more than 340,000 visitors compared to 320,000 in the previous edition, organizers said on Sunday.

Held under the high patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, this edition saw the participation of 750 publishers from 44 courtiers, added the organizers.

This year's edition featured a rich and diversified programme made up of 133 activities of which 45 were devoted to children.

The programme also included seminars and conferences with the participation of 284 speakers from different fields of knowledge and arts.

Like previous editions, SIEL 2015 was marked by Morocco's Book Award, Argana International Prize, presented by "The House of Poetry" in Morocco, along with the International Prize for the Arab Novel. Palestine was the guest of honour in this year's edition.

The Fair celebrated Palestinian culture through the organisation of several seminars and conferences that explored several themes, such as the holy city of Al Quds and other aspects of the Palestinian heritage and identity along with artistic, literary and entertainment activities.
