CORCAS Head Holds Talks with Chilean & Panamanian Officials

Rabat - Chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Khalihenna Ould Errachid, held talks in Rabat with President of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies, Ivan Garcia Flores, and Panama's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Federico Alfaro Boyd. Talks with the Chilean official, which took place Tuesday, focused on the latest developments of the Sahara issue and on the momentum generated by Morocco autonomy initiative in the southern provinces, CORCAS said in a release.

In this regard, Ould Errachid said that the Moroccan proposal, submitted to the United Nations in 2007, was welcomed by the Security Council and deemed as a credible, realistic and serious solution to the issue. Talks with the Panamanian official, which took place Monday, also touched on the Moroccan Sahara issue, the source said.

On this occasion, the Moroccan official highlighted the broad lines of the autonomy initiative, noting that this proposal was developed by the population of the Southern provinces in order to manage their own affairs. Ould Errachid also shed light on the CORCAS' mission as a framework that represents all the tribes in Morocco's southern provinces.
