British PM in Tripoli for talks

British premier David Cameron flew in to Tripoli today for talks with Prime Minister Ali Zeidan. following his two day visit to Algiers.

He arrived at the prime minister Ali Zeidan's office after first visiting the Kaleat Al-Ferjan police academy and going on a 15-minute walkabout, meeting members of the crowd in Martyrs Square. He also met President Mohamed Magarief.

This surprise visit to the Libyan capital comes just days after the warning of threats against Westerners in Benghazi  which led to the British Foreign Office(FCO) advising all British subjects to leave Benghazi.  The FCO had also received a warning of a possible threat to  its embassy in Tripoli.

At a press conference, he announced that police investigating the 1988 Lockerbie bombing are to visit Libya.He
said to the Libyan people "The British people want to stand with you and help you deliver the greater security that Libya needs.So we have offered training and support from our police and our military. We look forward to working together in the years ahead."

Mr Cameron flew on to Monrovia in Liberia where he is to chair a conference on international development.
