Benghazi’s Congress members have called on the government to go further in establishing full control over the city by disbanding all militias and incorporating their members into the security services, the Libya Herald reports.
Benghazi Congress members call on government to disband all militias
Two  islamic miltias voluntarily disbanded and were chased out oftheir bases by 30 to 40,000 civilian protestors last week and it was annoumced tht military officers would be put in charge of militias. Benghazi civilians have been asked not to carry weapons . There are rumours of demonstrations at the end of the week.

However there is a slight problem; Libya still does not have a new government. The National Peoples Congress has given Prime Minister Mustafa Abushagur  until 7 October to form a government or be deemed to have resigned as Prime Minister, The Libya Herald reports.

It seems that Mustapha Abushagur is having problems reconciling the different parties notably Mahmoud Jibril’s National Forces Alliance(NFA) which unconfirmed reports say has backed out of joining the government. As the NFA has a majority of seats in the Congress , 39 out of the 60 seats reserved for political parties, the credibility of the new government would be affected.Last week, Mahmoud Jibril said that his alliance would have no part in any government “if [it] is only needed to make up numbers, or to show off”.Abushagur narrowly beat Jibril for the prime ministership in an election on 12 September, receiving 96 votes from Congress members to the NFA leader’s 94.
