During an academic session at the Belgian parliament attended by several deputies and senators from the Moroccan immigration, speaker of the house of representatives André Flahaut said that the Moroccan community, the most important community of non-European origin in Belgium, has shaped and marked the country's history.

The first generation, which arrived in Belgium in the sixties with the signing by Morocco and Belgium of an agreement on the employment of Moroccan workers, was totally invested to support the economic growth of the country, he said. Today, reason and intellectual honesty enable us to affirm that the Moroccan immigrant of the sixties became a full-fledged citizen. His social position is equivalent to that of nationals. He participate in all activities of society, including within the state and is expressing himself through cultural productions, he added.
