BCIJ arrests two other members of dismantled criminal network

Rabat - Investigations conducted by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), an offshoot of Morocco's domestic intelligence agency (DGST), concerning the criminal network that was dismantled last Thursday in Fez and Meknes, enabled to arrest on Sunday in Fez and Tangier two other members of this ring, the Interior Ministry announced on Monday in a statement.

The same source said that the two members are formers convicts in terrorism-related cases, including a leader of a terrorist cell smashed in 2005 and who was planning to carry out terrorist projects in Morocco in coordination with Algerian Mokhtar Belmokhtar, one of the leaders of former terrorist organization Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat, and current Emir of Al Murabitun organization.

The probe under way revealed the extremist tendency of this network members given the very dangerous criminal operations they have executed and which constitute a threat for Morocco's security and stability, it added.

The statement noted that the investigations proved that these individuals are involved in committing a robbery of a money transfer agency in Meknes after kidnapping one of its employees, with the aid of new members imbued with extremist ideology, including Moroccan fighters in ISIS, adding that one of them died on 2014.

These criminals planned to find weapons in the occupied city of Melilia and use them in abduction operations of some tradesmen north of the Kingdom for ransoms pursuant to the strategy adopted by the different terrorist organizations, said the source.

Last Thursday, the BCIJ nabbed 6 people belonging to a network specializing in robberies, using knives, in the regions of Fez and Meknes, it recalled, adding that the ring is led by two former detainees under the anti-terror law who were members of a terrorist cell dismantled in 2004 for murder and explosives manufacturing and possession.
