Azoulay: Anna Lindh, First Joint Foundation for Euro-Mediterranean Partnership

Mardi 2 Décembre 2014

Cairo - André Azoulay, Adviser to HM the King and President of the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for Dialogue Between Cultures, praised the audacious decision, taken ten years ago by the governments of the region, to create this foundation, the first common institution for the Euro-Mediterranean partnership and the only Euro-Mediterranean institution based in the southern border of the Mediterranean.
Azoulay: Anna Lindh, First Joint Foundation for Euro-Mediterranean Partnership
Speaking at a ceremony, held Sunday night in Cairo to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Alexandria-based Anna Lindh Foundation, Azoulay underlined that the foundation, which aspires to be "a network of civil society networks" in the region, now boasts more than 4,000 NGOs from across Europe and the Mediterranean area that endeavor to promote dialogue between cultures and implement joint projects in the fields of education, media and culture.

During its ten years, the Foundation has seen the participation of thousands of men and women to its key forums held in Barcelona and Marseille, and its multiple spaces of meetings and exchanges within the framework of programs such as "Dawrak" and "the voice of Arab youth," he said.

He recalled that most of the participants in the activities of the foundation were young people in search of hope and committed to the values advocated by the institution, namely mutual respect, promotion of peace and the categorical rejection of any form of extremism, xenophobia or racism.

The President of the Anna Lindh Foundation also noted that the Mediterranean, which has been placed anew at the heart of the agenda of international politics, is facing serious challenges, deploring, in this respect, the persistence of "the unbearable impasse" in reaching a just resolution to the Palestinian issue.
