Ashton reaffirms support to granting Tunisia "EU advanced status"

European Union Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton reaffirmed Thursday support to granting Tunisia EU "advanced status." TAP reported.

Mrs. Ashton, who met in New York with Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki on the sidelines of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly, expressed hope that "the consultations between both sides will be crowned with the signing of the agreement granting 'advanced status' to Tunisia," before she visits the country next February.
 
According to a communiqué released by the Presidency of the Republic, the EU Foreign Policy Chief asserted that "the process of democratic transition in Tunisia is a model for the whole region," adding that this model has earned the consideration of all the Europeans who are unanimously committed to supporting this process and contributing to its success, through the establishment of actual partnership between Tunisia and Europe.
 
The President of the Republic reviewed the different steps made by Tunisia on the way of democratic transition.
 
"The democratic transition process and the steps taken to set up the State's constitutional institutions are making actual and effective progress despite some difficulties which do not prevent Tunisia's people from getting over them," he declared.
