Anti-terrorism: Morocco Calls for Holistic Approach
"Morocco is convinced that peace, security and sustainable stability are dependent on security, sustainable development and safeguarding cultural and religious values to fight terrorism," Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs Mbarka Bouaida underlined at a debate on "the contribution of moderate religious voices and education", as part of the White House Summit on Countering Violent Extremism (February 18-20 in Washington).

"The approaches based on the security and the military, despite their importance, are insufficient to guarantee the successful treatment of the complex dimensions of terrorism," she said.

In fact, "alongside these aspects, it is imperative to implement a preventive strategy at the political, social, cultural and religious levels", Bouaida stressed.

Initiated and organized by the White House, the summit is attended by representatives of some 60 countries and examines ways to fight violent extremism in the world.

Through presentations, panel discussions, and small group interactions, participants will build on local, state, and federal government, community, and international efforts to better understand, identify, and prevent the cycle of radicalization to violence at home in the United States and abroad.

This summit builds on the strategy the White House released in August of 2011, "Empowering Local Partners to Prevent Violent Extremism in the United States", the first national strategy to prevent violent extremism domestically.
