Anti-corruption fight: African group supports Morocco's proposal of mechanism for Marrakech statement's implementation
St. Petersburg - The Moroccan proposal to create a follow-up mechanism for the implementation of the Marrakech statement related to the prevention of corruption was lauded and strongly supported by the group of African countries taking part in the Sixth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which opened on Monday in Russia.

During the plenary session of the event, which will run till Nov. 6 with the attendance of a strong Moroccan delegation, the African group also supported the approach by the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption to make the prevention a basic tool to fight corruption at the level of national strategies.

Morocco has hosted the 4th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption on Oct. 24-28, 2011, which was crowned by the adoption of the Marrakech statement: a roadmap focusing on prevention as an instrument to fight all forms of corrupt practices and represents also one of the bases of the said convention.
