Annual cost of environmental degradation estimated at 4% of GDP Minister
Fez - The total cost of environmental degradation is estimated at 4% of GDP, said Minister Delegate in charge of the Environment Hakima El Haite.
Speaking at a conference in Fez on local environmental challenges, the Minister made it clear that the environment is a key dimension in all economic sectors.
In this respect, she pointed out to the national solid waste treatment programme which will be implemented across the Kingdom with the aim of ensuring the professional collecting of 85% of solid waste in 2016 and 90% by 2020 as well as the setting up of centers for the treatment of solid waste in all urban centers by 2020.
El Haite also warned of the consequences of pollution on the environment and on agriculture notably olive culture in the region of Fez. In this regard, she said that a regional environment office will be created in Fez.
