The donation of these medicines "is a laudable gesture, because it provides a remedy to a rather insidious disease that has made great havoc in Africa and especially in tropical countries for quite some time," ambassador Sow said.

"By presenting this donation to the Aristide Le Dantec Hospital, the Foundation significantly and effectively contributes to the fight against this terrible disease that affects today a much younger population," the diplomat said, adding that the donation is intended to children with cancer whose parents have difficulties in affording treatment.

"Senegal is thankful to the Lalla Salma Foundation and hopes that these medicines will contribute to the fight against this terrible disease in our country," he added.

This action is part of the overall care development programme for children with cancer in the countries of the Region, in collaboration with the Franco-African Pediatric Oncology Group.

In addition to the donation of medicines, the Foundation provides significant support for the development of skills of health staff in these countries through the African Oncology School. The countries beneficiaries of this operation are Mali, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Gabon.

Fourteen African countries have sought collaboration with the Lalla Salma Foundation in the field of cancer prevention and control, and many agreements have been signed.
