Ali Larayedh to be next Tunisian Prime Minister

Official spokesman for the Presidency Adnan Mansard said that during a meeting on Friday between President Moncef Marzouki, Ennahdha Movement Leader Rached Ghannouchi and Shura Council Chairman Fethi Ayadi, that the President of the Republic had been informed that Ali Larayedh was chosen as the candidate of Ennahdha for the position of PM.

President Moncef Marzouki submitted a letter of invitation to Mr Ali Larayedh on Friday afternoon TAP reported.The new Prime Minister will have a period of 15 days in which to form a government.

Mr. Mansar said that the President will submit within three days, the file of the new government to the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) Speaker, adding that in case it does not have the Assembly's confidence, the President of the Republic will choose "the most eligible person."


Meanwhile, the outgoing government is in charge of day-to-day management till the formation of a new government, said the official spokesman.

Mr Larayedh was criticised by opposition parties over his failureto tackle  persistently violent Salafist demonstrations and is unlikely to be a popular choice with opposition parties .
