Algerian artist Adel Abdessmed exhibits in London
Conducted in 2012 under the theme "Cry", the works of Abdessemed are inspired by a famous photo of a Vietnamese girl, a victim of the Vietnam War.

The picture shows a 9 year old girl, naked and suffering from burns, fleeing a napalm attack against her village in southern Vietnam.

The photo was taken by a photographer named Nick Ut, a Vietnamese who worked on behalf of the American press agency (Associated Press), which won him the World Press Photo award (1972) and the Pulitzer Prize (1973).

Born in 1971 in Constantine, Abdessemed began his artistic career in Patna before joining the School of Fine Arts in Algiers (1987-1994) and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, where he graduated in 1998. He currently lives between Paris and New York.

Specialising in contemporary art, Abdessemed has participated in several exhibitions in Switzerland, France, USA, Italy and England. He was nominated in 2006 for the Marcel Duchamp Prize for contemporary art.
