Algerian Tourism Minister highlights the challenges facing tourism

Mohmed Benmeradi Algerian Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts said that the law governing the activities of tour operators, visas, investment, real estate, communications, hotels and beaches concession requires a new vision.He was speaking at the Liberte Forum.

The minister discussed the problems inherent in the sector with great realism but also his ambitions and policies that are in place. The industry must recognise that the strategy through the master plan(SDAT) is the road map but much remains to be done the Algerian daily Liberte reported.

He emphasised that great efforts have been  made but the results may not appear until much later as the current situation remains difficult. Tourismis dependent  on other departments as many projectsare being launched at once and he appealed forprocedures tobe eased.

."Developers will now have to obtain the approval of the province and the National Agency of Tourism Development (ANDT) without going through the Ministry of Tourism,"he said.
 

There are now 450 ZET (20 in the south) that require 150 billion dinars for the purpose of development and  the industry does not have.  Mr Benmeradi also took advantage of the forum to acess new information including the direction of travel agencies in addressing  news about them. Some laws governing the sector have become obsolete and require revision including the law governing the activities of tour operators the minister said.He said the pricing for hotels would be reviewed in order to tourism products more attractive and develop local tourism.
