Algerian Political Party Calls for Opening Algeria-Morocco Borders

Lundi 15 Février 2016

Algiers - The Algerian opposition party, Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD), on Saturday called for opening borders between Algeria and Morocco.
"The borders should be opened in order to strengthen our capabilities. Those who are against opening the borders are those who benefit from this situation of isolation," said Mohcine Belabbas, president of RCD at a public meeting in Algiers on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the party.

Opening the borders will stimulate competitiveness and nurture open debate, he pointed out.

"Locking a nation up means stifling the most needy", he said, calling to rehabilitate the federation of North African States as leaders of liberation movements aspired.

"To this end, we need to gap our differences, unite our means and widen the market for our factories," he said.

In January, Belabbas called from Morocco for the creation of the "North African Assembly", adding that its establishment requires "putting an end to the closed borders between Algeria and Morocco".
