Algerian Cinema: Feature films at Suny Potsdam academic festival in New York

Algiers: Feature films Rachida (2003) Yamina Bachir Chouikh, Days of Glory (2006) by Rachid Bouchareb and The Battle of Algiers (1966) by the Italian Gillo Pontecorvo, will be screened at Suny Potsdam academic festival in New York (USA) , scheduled from 10 to 13 April, the organizers announced.

Taking place under the theme “The Algerian struggle for human rights” , these projections will be supervised by Cheref Abdelkader, Algerian scholar at the University of Connecticut.

Associate professor of literature and comparative literature, Abdelkader Cheref is also the author of several books and essays on Algeria and North Africa, and cultural studies.

Rachida Chouikh Bashir tries to shed light on terrorism in Algeria in the 1990s, so that the indigenes in Bouchareb's film recall the contribution of indigenous troops from North Africa, still under French occupation, in the war against Nazi Germany.

Ranked as a historical document and included in the anthology of world cinema, The Battle of Algiers, reflects the revolutionary course of the Algerian people against French colonialism through the heroism of the people of the Casbah of Algiers who resisted the abuses and torture practiced by the occuppier.
