Geneva - Morocco's permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Omar Hilale affirmed, on Monday in Geneva, that Algeria is a sad example of abuse of human rights and basic liberties, underlining that its bleak history is among the most condemned internationally.
Algeria, sad example of human rights abuses, Hilale
At a UN debate on the follow-up of the Vienna declaration and program of plan (VDPP), Hilale regretted the fact of not reading his doctrinaire declaration on the VDPP because he is obliged to answer statements by the Algerian delegation which used these two documents to support human rights allegations in Morocco.

The ambassador said that Algeria should rather be concerned over its failure to respect relevant provisions of the Vienna declaration and program of plan as it has a record of breaches of the said documents.

He recalled that the first article of the declaration reaffirms the obligation to protect human rights and basic liberties for everyone, while in Algeria freedom of speech, assembly and peaceful demonstrations are still repressed as shows the HRW 2013 report.
